Over the last seven years, cattle fed at SWIFEEDLOT have an overall average daily gain (or rolling herd average) of 3.6 pounds per day!
This figure represents cattle placed on feed at 700 pounds or more. Calves weighing 550 pounds or more placed on feed here have averaged 3.1 pounds per day over the same three year period.
We have found it most profitable to utilize the grids and start cattle in outside lots and finish them in our confinement finishing barns.
NEWS FLASH - OPTI-FLEX
About a year ago we started feeding an additive called Opti-Flex from Elanco the last 28-42 days of the finishing period.
We have seen a 1/2 percent increase of yields, with a reduction of yield grade #4's. Opti-Flex is a Beta1 agonist that is NOT a hormone or steroid.
